Save the Children facilitates formation of Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights

Kathmandu, Sept 15, 2023: Save the Children together with CZOP facilitated the formation of the ‘Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights,’ comprising parliamentarians representing major political parties, in Kathmandu, on September 15, 2023. The committee is mandated to work to ensure that child rights are recognized and firmly embedded in the government's policies and plans in the days to come.  The initiative was one of the action points agreed during an earlier interaction with lawmakers, on July 14-15, organized by Save the Children and CZOP.

The nine-member committee comprises Hon'ble Chanda Chaudhary from Nepali Congress, Hon'ble Shanti Shrestha from CPN-UML, Hon'ble Kalpana Miya from CPN (Maoist Centre), Hon'ble Seeta Rana from Nepali Congress, Hon'ble Laxmi Tiwari from Rastriya Swantantra Party, Hon'ble Ishwori GM from CPN-UML, Hon'ble Ranju Jha from Janata Samajbadi Party, Hon'ble Bina Lama from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and Hon'ble Binita Kumari Singh from Janamat Party. The committee has agreed to formulate a clear action plan for the smooth functioning of the Caucus in the days to come.

Speaking at the event, Hon’ble Ishwori GM, one of the members of the newly formed Caucus, said that the formation of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights is an important step towards ensuring the rights of children in Nepal. “This Caucus will play a key role in ensuring that every child in Nepal has the opportunity to survive, thrive and learn, through necessary policy guidance and legislations.”

The event was organized in financial support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) under Strengthening CSOs and Amplifying Children’s Voices through Networking, Knowledge Sharing, and Action Learning for Promoting Children’s Rights in Nepal (SANKALP) project.
